The Ultimate Overlanding Essentials: My Top 5 Must-Have Items

Overlanding and camping are incredible ways to explore the great outdoors, reconnect with nature, and challenge yourself. However, packing for such adventures can be a bit tricky, especially if you can only bring a limited number of items. If I had to narrow it down to just five essentials, here are the items I would take with me:

1. First Aid Kit

Safety always comes first. Whether it's a small cut, a sprained ankle, or something more serious, having a well-stocked first aid kit can be a lifesaver. It's not just about treating injuries; it’s about peace of mind knowing you’re prepared for unexpected situations. Make sure your kit includes bandages, antiseptics, pain relievers, and any personal medications you might need.

2. Garmin InReach Mini

When you’re out in the wilderness, cell service can be non-existent. The Garmin InReach Mini is a compact satellite communicator that allows you to send and receive messages, track your location, and most importantly, call for help in case of an emergency. It's my go-to device for that "oh shit" moment when you need to ensure you can reach out for assistance.

3. Quality Sleeping Bag

A good night’s sleep is crucial, especially when you’re spending your days hiking, driving, or setting up camp. A high-quality sleeping bag that suits the climate you’ll be in is essential. It keeps you warm, comfortable, and ready to take on the next day's adventures.

4. Fire Starter (Like Blackbeard Fire Starter)

Starting a fire can be challenging, especially in adverse weather conditions. The Blackbeard Fire Starter is reliable in all types of weather and ensures you can always get a fire going for warmth, cooking, and signaling.
